MY STORY

I’m Kyrstin Dumont, a proud band member of the Algonquins of Kitigan Zibi, and I’m deeply passionate about advocating for climate justice, human rights, and Indigenous issues. I’ve been honored with awards like the CBC Trailblazer Award, the June Girvan Award, and the Youth Ottawa RBC Spirit of the Capital Take A Stand Award for my work both within and outside of Indigenous communities.

I’ve participated in sacred walks to protect water, spoken on Parliament Hill about climate justice, and addressed the House of Commons about the genocide of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada. My advocacy extends to organizations such as the Ottawa Catholic and Carleton School Boards, Project of Hearts, UNICEF Canada, and local churches, all while pursuing my post-secondary education.

I’m committed to being a strong role model and advocate for other students, especially those who have fallen through the cracks of the colonial education system. As an educator, mentor, and community leader, I continue to work tirelessly to inspire and support my family and community.
