MY STORY

My name is Keyhew Gopher-Preston, and I’m a proud Nehiyaw Saulteaux/Cree from Saulteaux First Nation, Treaty Six Territory in Saskatchewan, Canada, the traditional homeland of many Indigenous nations. Raised with deep respect for my traditions, I’ve been taught to be proud of who I am as a First Nations person, and today, I serve as a motivational speaker, youth advocate, and mental health advocate, as well as the National Ambassador of Hope for We Matter and Youth Representative for Saulteaux First Nation.

A central focus of my work is spreading a message of hope and guidance to youth and Two-Spirit individuals across Turtle Island, while also raising awareness about mental health and the effects of intergenerational trauma. Through my role as a speaker, I have the privilege of visiting many Nations across Canada to discuss topics such as mental health, youth life promotion, self-care, and coping mechanisms, all while promoting Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being to help future generations live healthier, more fulfilled lives.
