MY STORY
Mya is a proud Algonquin youth from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg and the Founder & CEO of Kokom Scrunchies. She launched Kokom Scrunchies in 2020 at just nine years old, to honour her culture and inspire her community. Now 15 and balancing her role as CEO with her high school studies, Mya has grown Kokom Scrunchies into a nationally recognized brand celebrated for its high-quality, made-in-Canada scrunchies and authentic storytelling.
A passionate pow wow dancer, Mya travels to Indigenous communities across Canada in the summer and plays hockey in the winter. She has also been a public speaker since the age of 10, sharing her entrepreneurial journey and cultural insights with audiences nationwide. In 2025, Mya participated in major Kokom Scrunchies milestones, including a landmark partnership with Northern Store, special campaigns with Nike and Mastercard, and the creation of a limited-edition Toronto Maple Leafs x Kokom Scrunchies collection. Her work has even reached Hollywood, with Kokom Scrunchies featured at the Oscars pre-gifting suite.
