MY STORY
I am Kris Meawasige, Ojibwe and Potawatomi Anishinaabe, from Serpent River First Nation and Curve Lake First Nation. Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, on the traditional territory of the Atikameksheng Anishinaabeg, I have lived on the unceded traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg near Ottawa since 2013.
I have been working with Indigenous communities across Ontario since 2001, in various roles such as Employment and Training Field Support Worker, Indigenous Education Counsellor, and currently as Indigenous Student Support and Re-engagement Coordinator (K-12) at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies and a Bachelor of Education, I am deeply committed to supporting Indigenous children, youth, and families throughout their education journey, ensuring they can be proud of who they are and have their gifts honored in a good way.
