MY STORY
My name is Jennifer Ashawasegai-Pereira, and I am an Anishinabe kwe from Henvey Inlet First Nation in Robinson Huron Treaty territory. With a background in journalism, communications, community engagement, and Traditional Knowledge from my region, I currently work as a Senior Intermediate Indigenous Engagement Knowledge Specialist at SNC-Lavalin.
Community and culture are at the heart of everything I do. I volunteer as a spokesperson for my community on matters related to the wind farm project, which was developed through a partnership between HIFN’s power company, Nigig Corporation, and Pattern Energy. This project includes a 300 MW wind energy facility on First Nation land, along with a 104 km transmission line that connects to the grid in Parry Sound. I'm also proud to serve as a trustee on the Henvey Inlet First Nation Legacy Board.
Allyship plays a key role in advancing the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. Reconciliation is an essential aspect of many sectors across Turtle Island, and I enjoy sharing my thoughts and experiences as a grassroots Anishinabe Kwe, navigating life in both the traditional and modern worlds.
